Simply put, tablets are easy. Just place them in your feeder and forget about it, right! .....Wrong.
Chlorine Tablets have CYANURIC ACID better known as STABILIZER, which protects the Chlorine from being depleted by the sun.
Chlorine tablets continuously add stabilizer to the water. Too much of a good thing is not good! Once a high concentration is reached, your chlorine in your pool water becomes less effective, which decrease the sanitizing capabilities and can lead to water clarity issues, staining, and even algae growth!
Just "Google" high levels of cyanuric acid in pools
I cannot count how many times, I have tested a new customers pool water, and the stabilizer level is off the charts, due to continuous tablet use.
The only way to correct the level is by partially draining and adding fresh water to the pool.
Stop using Chlorine Tablets if your Stabilizer level is high.
Liquid chlorine is your best choice since it only contains Sodium Hypochlorite and not Stabilizer or Calcium as with some powder shock products. Also Converting to a Salt Pool is a good choice. I have a salt pool and LOVE IT!
Want to know how often your filter should be cleaned? The answer is, see your manufacture owner’s manual.
Not every week, month or two. It should be cleaned when the Pressure on the gauge increases by 8 to 10 PSI according to the manufacture.
A new or clean filter element is less efficient in removing particles than a slightly dirty one. As the filter fibers accumulate debris, it filters better, giving you crystal clear water. So rely on your Pressure gauge on when to clean.
Hayward and Pentair, two of the major manufactures, state this in their filter manuals. They also provide indicators on their pressure gauges, to let you know when it is time to clean.
